- Personal work
I've used Photoshop quite a lot over the years in the pre and post production of my previous illustration work. This usually involved laying out the composition prior to painting, then color-correcting and otherwise preparing the scanned or photographed finished artwork for print or web display. But this here my first Donald, is the first time I've used PS to illustrate something. I mean, I've made occasional trial runs at illustrating with digital apps over the years, but I'd always aim for simulating natural media, which in the end left me unimpressed and gave me no real reason to not just use good old pencil and paint.
But, I think this is the first time I've used PS for its inherent strengths -- layers and layer masks, paths, blending modes, custom brushes -- that an illustration resulted with any sort of depth or painterliness, as far as that term can apply to digital art. And like I mentioned in my last post, I wanted to build off the rough drawing to avoid going too realistic in order to retain some personality and freshness. If you saw that last post of the seven Donald drawings, it should be clear which one this is. Please let me know what you think. I had fun doing it and am looking forward to doing more.
